TFL/ PCO MEDICAL FAQs

Please reach us at admin@d4youdrivermedicals.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

The medical is done by a GMC registered doctor where we will test your vision, blood pressure, ask medical questions and review your full medical records.

You'll need the TPH 204 form from TFL (request it from them or download it here),  along with your full medical records, and let our friendly doc work their magic.

Once complete, you send it off to TFL to the address on page 1 of the TPH 204 form, or scan it to your online TFL account it as a PDF.

We provide TFL medicals / PCO medicals / private hire medicals in our London clinics or alternatively we also conduct mobile medicals where we come to you.

Book now and let the driving adventures begin!

Wondering if you need to tackle the TFL/PCO Medical? Here's the lowdown:You'll need this examination if:

  • It's your first application for a TFL/PCO license.
  • You're over 45 years old and every three years thereafter.
  • You're over 65 years old and need it annually.

Remember, it's your legal duty to inform TFL about any health changes. Stay on the right side of the road!

If you do need to do the TFL medical / PCO medical, make sure you choose a provider that is experienced in these medicals in particular, the forms are different to the usual D4 medicals. Clients may find that if they choose a provider who is unfamiliar with these medicals, the form is filled out incorrectly and TFL / PCO returns the form asking for it to be corrected. Or alternatively, it is not completed with the correct medical record, which can cause issues later when you submit your application.

This can cause significant delays to your application process. Our friendly GMC register doctor is experienced in TFL PCO medicals. We complete TFL PCO medicals at all our locations.

Curious about who gets a free pass from the TFL/PCO Medical Check? Here's the scoop:You're exempt if:

  • You're a licensed London hackney carriage (taxi) driver.
  • You hold a current DVLA group 2 licence (with category "D" on the photo-card license).
  • Your licence includes categories C, CE, or C1E.
  • If you have category C1 or C1E on your licence and it was added after 1997.

But hold your horses! It's your responsibility to confirm if you need the medical. If you're unsure about your exemption status, reach out to TFL directly and inquire about the TFL/PCO medical check. Stay informed, stay compliant!

To complete your TFL/PCO medical, remember to bring a printed TPH 204 form with you. Download it here or request TFL to send it.

You can download it here, or you can request TFL to send the form to you.

Once the medical has been conducted, you will need to login to your TfL PCO licence application form and upload the TPH 204 medical form. Alternatively, you can send it to TFL on the address listed on the first page of the TPH 204 medical form.

A PCO License enables you to operate as a minicab driver or chauffeur for private hire vehicles. It's also referred to as the Private Hire Driver License and is regulated by the Public Carriage Office, a division of Transport for London (TfL).

 You'll need it if:

  • It's your initial application for a PCO license.
  • You're over 45 years old and need a renewal every three years.
  • You're over 65 years old and require an annual renewal.

Remember, it's your legal duty to inform TFL about any health changes. Stay compliant drivers!

If you do need to do a PCO license and therefore a PCO medical, make sure you choose a provider that is experienced in PCO medicals in particular, the forms are different to the usual D4 medicals. Clients may find that if they choose a provider who is unfamiliar with these medicals, the form is filled out incorrectly and TFL / PCO returns the form asking for it to be corrected. This causes significant delays to your application process.

Or alternatively, it is not completed with the correct medical record, which can cause issues later when you submit your application.

Wondering why you need a PCO License? It's a legal requirement if you want to work as a driver or chauffeur for a licensed private hire operator. Get licensed and hit the road legally!

To ensure a smooth TFL/PCO Medical, prepare the following:

  • Your full comprehensive medical records (obtained from your GP surgery). We cannot conduct the medical without the full medical records, as it is a requirement from TFL that the medical must be completed with the full medical record.
  • Glasses and your glasses prescription, if applicable (prescription needs documentation).
  • Details of medications and doses.
  • Valid ID such as a passport or driving license.
  • TPH 204 form

Having these essentials on hand will help avoid delays and ensure a hassle-free medical examination.

Please ask your GP surgery for the following:

I am applying for a TFL/PCO license and for this, I am undergoing a TFL PCO medical with a private medical company.

To complete this, I am requesting my full medical record under Section 45 of the Data Protection Act 2018.

I would like the full medical record which shows all my previous consultations as well as any referrals, discharge letters and all correspondence and medical records available.

It must be the full medical record, it cannot be a medical summary and it cannot just show the last three most recent consultations. I would appreciate it if you could kindly email it to me in PDF form.

We understand that you may feel nervous about your TFL PCO medical examination. Our doctor is here to make the whole experience a breeze. Here's some handy advice to help with your medical going well:

  1. Don't forget your glasses along with your glasses prescription.
  2. Bring a detailed record of your regular medications and their doses.
  3. Arrive early to relax. Sip some water and take deep breaths.. If you're on blood pressure meds, don't forget to take them as prescribed.
  4. Bring your full medical records
  5. Bring a form of ID

Remember, we've got your back and we'll make it as smooth as a freshly tarmacked road. Cheers!

We cannot unfortunately do your medical without your medical records as possession of your full medical records is a mandatory requirement for the TPH 204 form / TFL PCO medical.

Even if you are fit and well, with no prior medical conditions, we still require your full medical records ahead of the appointment.

We guide you on how to obtain your full medical records from your GP surgery ahead of your appointment.

A TFL / PCO medical is completed using the TPH 204 form, which you kindly bring to your appointment. Our friendly doctor will:

  • test your eye sight [this is included in the cost of the TFL PCO driver medical]
  • blood pressure test and physical examination
  • medical questions covering all domains required by TFL including history, symptoms and signs
  • review of your full medical records
  • completion of the TPH 204 medical form, where the above medical information is recorded on the form
  • the TPH 204 form is also completed in accordance to TFL guidelines

The medical will take approximately 15-30 minutes. Longer if you stop for a chat and a biscuit.

Only a GMC registered doctor with access to your complete medical records can complete your TFL PCO TPH 204 medical. We guide you on how to obtain your full medical records from your GP ahead of your appointment.

We recommend you book a TFL PCO medical with a provider who has experience in TFL medicals, or you'll risk TFL sending those papers back, causing delays. Both completion of the form as well as the actual medical have specific guidelines that must be followed, therefore choose a provider who is experienced in TFL PCO medicals to prevent unnecessary delays later.

Opticians can handle the vision test, but they can't do the whole TFL/PCO form. Good news though, we've got you covered! Our price includes the vision assessment, so no need to hit up the optician separately. We'll handle the whole shebang for you!

NHS GPs are swamped due to unprecented demand for their skills and services. Understandably, some GPs cannot provide a quick appointment for driver medicals and sometimes, they do not complete this at all.

This is because TFL PCO medicals are considered non NHS work and therefore GPs can decline to do this if they do not have capacity.

Private medical companies can complete your driver medical, however don't play driver medical roulette. Choose wisely! We're experienced in TFL / PCO medicals, with expert knowledge and answers to all your burning questions.

Clients may find that if they choose a provider who is unfamiliar with TFL PCO medicals, the form is filled out incorrectly and TFL / PCO returns the form asking for it to be corrected. Or alternative, the medical is completed without the full medical record, therefore causing your application to be returned and requiring the medical to be redone.

This causes significant delays to your application process. Our friendly GMC register doctor is experienced in TFL PCO medicals and we therefore guide you on the process from start to finish.

We are very competitively priced and offer our TFL PCO medicals for £65 with the eye test / vision assessment included. This includes all aspects of the medical required by TFL.

You can book a medical with our friendly doctor by either booking via our website, or giving us a call on 07503 954 652.

PCO stands for Public Carriage Office - they are part of Transport for London (TfL).
